Hall & Oates

Wow. I had no idea, but apparently I'm a walking Hall & Oates repository. Aaron played this the over the weekend while we were tapping away on our laptops.

He wasn't so surprised that I knew this one even though he did think it was weird that I could identify the song within the first few notes played. For some reason he kept on digging up more Hall & Oates to play and I was able to do the same with all of them. Granted, they were all of their hits so I would have just heard them on the radio. I just had no clue that I knew that many of their songs. (I guess I missed my chance on Name That Tune...as long as the title of the song was actually the chorus. )

I looked them up afterwords to try and see if I could figure out why they were so etched into my brain. Turns out they're both from the Philadelphia area and met while they were both going to Temple. Apparently, they met while dodging chains knives and (according to some reports) gunfire at the Adelphi ballroom for a battle of the bands when a fight that spread throughout the room broke out. Ahhh, a true Philadelphia story.

Well...

“You don’t leave Philly. I traveled the world, but it is just one of those things,” Hall said. “I feel like the whole city is my cousin.”

...everything but that cousin bit.
